Mimi's Story
"My condition is called Achalasia, which is a rare esophageal disorder. Life is very difficult because I do not know at the beginning of each week how sick I will be by the end. I vomit most times before my food gets to my stomach to digest. I have struggled with malnutrition, low electrolytes, and frequent hospitalizations. I would love to be a functioning member of society with a job, but my condition will not allow it. I have had multiple failed surgeries including a cholysysectomy, lypoma removal, heller's myotomy, and a DOR fundoplication. I struggle with severe abdominal pain almost chronically. Medical marijuana has helped with nausea control, severe muscle spasms, and the chronic pain thus allowing me to stabilize my nutrients and electrolytes and enjoy food. If I can nourish and hydrate myself properly, I can stay out of the hospital long enough to hold a job. It is very difficult to find quality medicine in Ohio because growers fear being arrested and that makes good medicine scarce."
How it Helps & Mimi's Current Condition
Mimi's surgical options are now gone and she has started to suffer from malnutrition, even with her feeding tube. The sittuation has become dier. Without medical marijuana, she vomits her own saliva over 4 times an hour, causing severe pain from her feeding tube and internal surgical scars. Medical marijuana is the only substance to stop the spasms in her esophogus and allow food to pass. Without medical marijuana, she has started to deteriorate quickly... there is simply no easy and consistant access in the state of Ohio. While her doctors, some of the most prominent surgeons in the world, can not endorse medical marijuana officially due to legal conditions, they have unofficially informed her that a move to a legal state is in her best interests.
What They Need & What You Get
Mimi's condition is progressing to the point of extreme urgency. While she will always support campaigns for medical marijuana in Ohio, she must move as soon as possible.
We need airfare and general funds for housing and supplies in order for Mimi to successfully move to a medical marijuana state. No funds would be used for the purchase of medical marijuana, simply those expenses that life brings. I wish we could offer more than the piece of mind that this young woman, and friend to many, finally has access to the medication she needs to survive.
